Our History
Brothers Caio and Fabiano Gullane have dedicated their careers to audiovisual productions since beginning activities in the 90s, producing content for publicity, television and short and medium-length films for cinema.
The duo gained more experience after the reawakening of national filmmaking and caught critics eyes right from the start with their first feature film. Brainstorm, directed by Laís Bodanzky, was released in 2000 and garnered over 40 awards around the world.
Fabiano and Caio specialized in executive production, a market niche that would prove extremely fruitful. Soon the brothers received an invitation from renowned filmmaker Hector Babenco to work with him in the super-production Carandiru. The maturity of this association was translated onto the screen, and the film was seen by over five million people and indicated for the Golden Pam at the Cannes Film Festival – one of the most prestigious in the world.
Around this time, a new partner joined the company to strengthen the production house’s base. Debora Ivanov, lawyer and cultural producer, actively participated in producing diverse feature films among which we can mention The Year My Parents Left on Vacation – a movie directed by Cao Hamburger which brought further distinction to Gullane’s international activities and was sold in over 30 countries as well as being selected to represent Brazil as Best Foreign Film in the 2008 Oscar.
That same year, Quarup Participations investment Holding Company joined Gullane as partner through its representative Gabriel Lacerda. Gullane Entretenimento S/A becomes the production company’s new name. Besides focusing on maintaining the already established high standards of quality, the change also allowed for implementing long term planning strategies and other modern management practices.
At the same time, Gullane, on their own or through third-party initiatives, assumes the obligation of collaborating with social-cultural activities. In 2005, the company founded the Querô Workshops, Entrepreneurship and Citizenship through Cinema social project which today is known as Querô Institute.
Attentive as well to the television broadcasting market, Gullane has invested its creative activities in producing content for this segment. Having already produced important series such as Alice for HBO Latin America, Gullane is increasing their participation in this market by taking on new partnerships.
Endeavoring to improve the quality of the productions, Gullane counts on a structured team to continue working with both - renown and new – artistic talents, collaborating actively in strengthening Brazil’s audiovisual industry.
